I was a child born in the 70's the disco era okay listen, comin up in Maywood, IL I was pretty cool in my time and like every hood you had your peer pressures lets see....all i can remember is that when it hit me there was no lookin’ back. It had to be around the summer of '85' the first wave of dj’s to hit me were Mike Brown, Terry Mac, Corey White (chuck bro), Joe Baines, Derrick Carter and Darren Simmons. Don’t get me wrong, there were a few more great Dj’s around but, these six guys put it down everytime they posted up behind tables.

Man I can remember when Corey talked me into ditchin school to go over Mike Browns house because he had just picked up a 909 reel, that’s right 909 not 808. T-mac was comin through to make what I think to this day is the rawest edit of Body Heat ever made ever! I guest you had to be there! Lets not forget Mark ,Ivan, Rubuen a trio of brothers who would rock any homecoming or Rec party while the icons were rocking the northlake hotel or the Res. The Hott Mix 5, I think it was 6 but its cool, you had Farley , Kenny Jason, Ralphy Rasario, Micky Oliver, Julian Perez, and Scott Sils. These cats ran the air waves and various clubs like Lamirage and Diligafs i would stay in on the weekends just to record the 'FridayNite dance party'. You didn’t have to go out to hear good music.

 

That was all in 2 years and I was just listening and partying to the music. In the summer of '87' I witnessed something that changed my life....Ron Hardy at the Box. Man the way he was playing that damn music dropped me to my knees and picked me up in one motion and yellin 'alright ronnie' while slam dancin, and it was at that point that me and my hommies decided to crossover from dancing to spinning. So started an era of another group of guys dedicated to music.

 

We were young so money wasn’t or friends then so ,we searched everywhere we could people we knew with old records in the garage, basement, attic, going out to trash it didnt matter we needed records ! The equipment! laugh …. two record players, with no pitch !Our fingers worked. and half a amp/mixer combo ..dont ask/ we were so serious and determined we wrote down every blend we did ,practiced it over and over sometimes with no headphones not by choice though.by the end 0f the year we had decided to call ourselves the chuck brothers because we had strangely started to wear nothin but chuck taylors,but it got deeper than just what we wore it was now about who we were ,what we did,where we went,who we talked to ...that shit was crazy,it gave us lifeforce and fire to achieve and 20years later we exist to 'react with the times'......where's chuck
